Asha’s 3D remastered adventure
The original team behind the Wonder Boy franchise have returned to remaster Monster World IV. First released in 1994 on the Sega Mega Drive, Monster World IV was the first title in the series to feature a female protagonist and to not receive a release outside Japan. It wasn't until 2012 that it came to the West via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.
Now retitled, Wonder Boy – Asha in Monster World, the remaster of the Mega Drive game features improved visuals, new modes and renewed gameplay. Releasing on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Steam, the game has a Q2 2021 release window.
Here’s a fun little trivia note. Wonder Boy has arguably one of the most convoluted naming sequences for a franchise. This game is a remaster of the sixth instalment, Monster World IV, whose predecessors consisted of Wonder Boy, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy III: Monster's Lair, Wonder Boy III: Dragon’s Trap and Wonder Boy in Monster World in that exact order. Starting out as a platformer, the series then evolved into Metroidvania games.
Are there any Wonder Boy/Monster World fans who played the 1994 game or those who missed out entirely, eager to try out the remaster?
