Another throwback 2D side scrolling brawler
Cowabunga! Everybody’s favorite pizza eating, sewer dwelling hero turtles are back in a new side scrolling adventure.
Hot from reviving Streets of Rage (a beat em up game) with its fourth instalment, Dotemu is partnering with Tribute Games to bring their flavour to the testudine superheroes. The game combines the co-op ‘beat em up’ genre made popular in the late 80s/early 90s arcades, with the 1987 art presentation of the ‘Turtle Mania’ cartoon phenomena.
The trailer features turtle brothers, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo putting a stop to the nefarious plans of their most iconic villains; Rocksteady, Bepop, Krane and Shredder. With the 80s cartoon theme song cranking in the background, fans are treated to the famous locale such as Manhattan sewers and Dimension X as well as briefs glimpses of supporting heroes Splinter and April O’Neil.
Shredder’s Revenge is the latest title in the renaissance of retro-modern games that includes Shovel Knight, Cyber Shadow, Undertale, Sonic Mania and Dotemu's developed The Messenger. As such, the developers send their nostalgic love letters to the cartoon series and a bygone arcade experience, but will implement modern gameplay enhancements.
The game will release on PC and on consoles, while its release date remains unknown. You can watch the trailer here.
