Said to be Obsidian's 'Skyrim'
Windows Central’s Jez Corden has seen the latest footage on upcoming Xbox exclusive Avowed. In his article, he says sources close to the game have offered details on the game as it reaches a pre-playable alpha state.
Avowed is an RPG developed by Obsidian and is set in Pillars of Eternity universe. Like Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds, Avowed will function in first-person gameplay with customisable playstyle classes and a deep narrative system.
He goes to say Avowed borrows Skyrim’s two-handed combat system, and can be seen as Obsidian’s take on The Elder Scrolls. On the other hand, The Outer Worlds is their version of Fallout.
Familiar elements seen in the Pillars of Eternity universe, include spells such as Jolting Touch, Fireballs and Fetid Caress while creatures such as the lizard-like Xaurips will appear in the game. In relation to combat, Corden sources’ state the Warriors class will utilise physical attacks such as swordplay, kicks and shield bashes, whereas Casters are given a range of customisable magic spell book options.
Environment interactivity is said to be played up with your protagonist being able to swim, light torches and cast fire spells capable of spreading inferno onto walls and floors.
Finally, Corden speculates Avowed will reach a playable state around E3 2022. We will see if Corden’s sources are true when official details eventually release.
